The warm glow of sun on the beautiful red tones of the horse and the refection in its eye are what inspired me to paint this small equine work.
It is painted with oil on on a 10 x 10 inch exhibition wrapped canvas.
I grew up around horses and know them intimately and that knowledge can be seen in the details of the horse and tack. This painting features a warmblood horse in the warm up ring at the international Spruce Meadows Masters, a world class equestrian facility in Alberta, Canada.
I sketched and photographed horses in the warm up ring before they went through into the competition jumping ring. I decided to include the white fencing and even the blue and red of a Pepsi machine in the distance – all part of the experience.
This painting is unframed but the edges are painted and it is wired and ready to hang.
