This piece represents an exploration in impressionism for me. I had so much fun using lots of thick oil paint, and allowing the least number of brush strokes to convey the full image and energy of this fiesty Belgian Heavy Draft horse and he waits impatiently for the team to move.
The broad marks add to the sense of motion and the bright color of the ribbons contrast the blue highlights on the polished black leather harness.
I cropped the painting in tight to help give the impression that if you were standing close to these huge fellows, you would not be able to take them all in at once.
This original 8 x 10 inch oil painting is done on exhibition style stretched, cotton canvas with the edges painted so it can hang unframed.
